Cynotilapia sp."ndumbi" Linganjala


Cynotilapia sp."ndumbi" can be found near Likoma Island, Chizumulu Island, Taiwanee Reef, Linganjala Reef, Mphanga Rocks, Lupingu, Makokola Reef, Chilucha Reef, Magunga Reef, Narungu and at Higga Reef. These Cynotilapia´s are mainly living in rocky environments which are free of sediment. Most of the times the males can be found in or very close to big caves, the females are swimming in open water in front of the rocks. This variant can be found in the neighbourhood of Linganjala Reef.


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 11 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 12 cm, females grow to about 10 cm.


Cynotilapia sp."ndumbi" can behave intolerant against equal species but also to other inhabitants. You can best keep this species with multiple females and a lot of hiding places in the aquarium.


In the lake, they feed mainly on plankton but also with algae that grow on the rocks. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
